10 Things To Do For Mother’s Day
The Mom Edition.
Don’t be boring this Mother’s Day! Honor the women in your life with the most important job title in the world by doing it different. Sure, we love flowers + brunch just as much as your average Jane, but you can do better! Check out our list of 10 things to do with your mom in Northern Nevada this Mother’s Day below (which is May 14th – please plan accordingly).
Take a Reno Food Tour. Seriously. There couldn’t be a more charming experience to share with the woman who brought you into this world. Nourish your bodies with the best in local food and take an adventure off the eaten path. Your mom will appreciate the experience and learn something new along the way. Can’t make it Mother’s Day weekend? We offer gift cards too!
Ditch the bouquet and go something for that’ll last longer. At Succulents & Wine you can build your own easy-to-care for arrangement whilst mom sips on a lovely chilled glass of Prosecco. They even have a carefully curated selection of craft beer for anyone not partial to fermented grapes. All generations are welcome, and your little ones will love getting their hands dirty too!
Okay, so the mom(s) in your life really like brunch — we get it. Make reservations at the Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge in Northern Nevada’s Tahoe City for a stunning lakeside meal, then take the scenic route home and loop around Tahoe. For the drive home, create a playlist of songs she knows and loves to jam to. She’ll appreciate the attention to detail. Promise.
Reno’s latest renovation comes with 9 bocce ball court. Previously the Sienna Hotel & Casino, the venue has transitioned in the opposite direction and omitted gambling entirely. A part of the Marriott International group, Renaissance boasts a new restaurant, games for all to enjoy and a overall stunning space. The best part: you can play bocce ball for free.
Pack a picnic and rent some snowshoes from Bobo’s Mogul Mouse. The active mom in your life will love the trek through Mt. Rose Meadows up to Chickadee Ridge. When you get to the top, a million dollar view of Lake Tahoe greets you alongside the chirps of hundreds of chickadees (some of whom like to land on your hand in search of snacks).
Get your culture on at the Nevada Museum of Art. You can still catch “A Place in the Country: Aboriginal Australian Paintings” which is a stunning exhibit featuring the work of a collection of female Australian artists depicting their view as indigenous peoples. Then pop on in to Mark Estee’s Chez Louie for lunch! Make sure to get the caramel budino.
Buy a disposable camera from your local drug store (yes, they still make those) and take her on a Tour de Dress Up! Find the funkiest outfits possible at Junkee Clothing Exchange, Dick Diamond’s Golden Jackal, Labels Consignment or your favorite thrift store, then photoshoot! When it’s all said and done, you can develop the photos and make a scrapbook together.
For the mom in need of some serenity, take her to The Mill Juice Shop for a light, vibrant breakfast and hit your favorite yoga studio for some warm vinyasa. They have a location in downtown Truckee too — so if you want to make a day trip out of it, you can go shopping afterwards or enjoy some time in the mountains.
Do you have a lover of all things history on your hands? Head up to Virginia City and do a little time travelling. Get dressed in classic western getups and have your portraits taken at Silver Sadie’s Old Time Photos for a glimpse of the past. Afterwards, head on down to the legendary Bucket of Blood Saloon for an adult beverage in a national landmark.
Take her to a Reno Ace’s game at Greater Nevada Field. There’s nothing more family friendly than a good ole’ fashioned baseball game. On Mother’s Day, the Ace’s take on the New Orleans Zephyrs. The stadium has also partnered with great local food options like Wild Garlic Pizza & Pub and Flocchini Sausages if hot dogs just aren’t her thing.
