In Search Of Winter Comforts

a group of people standing on top of a snow covered mountain

Hi!

What a winter this is turning out to be!

If you’re in the Reno/Tahoe area, you know exactly what we’re talking about. If you aren’t lucky enough to call this place home, think more snow days than you know what to do with, white out storms perfect for cozy days next to the fire and picturesque powder covering the landscape of our beloved Sierras, prime for shredding if you’re into that sort of thing.

We’ve been on the hunt for the best winter comforts Reno has to offer in lieu of one of the biggest snow seasons we’ve seen in years. You can find our top picks below plus a sneak peak into the world of City Green Gardens – who are defying these frigid temps as we speak.

BEST SPOT TO COZY UP WITH COCOA.

Hot cocoa is top on our list of winter comforts, and Hub Coffee Roasters has perfected the fine art that is hot chocolate. Enjoy yours in their bright, airy digs on Riverside Dr. right next to the Truckee River for the best of both worlds.

SUSTENANCE BEFORE HITTING THE SLOPES.

Fewer activities are as strenuous as a day on the mountain, especially if the conditions are as dreamy as they have been. So first you need food! Hit up Truckee Bagel Company for the freshest bagels this side of the Sierras.

INDOOR ADVENTURE FOR THE STIR CRAZY.

Downtown Reno Food Tour stop, Liberty Food & Wine Exchange boasts a market of fresh foods like their renowned bolognese sauce, house made bucatini and even wine to pair it with. Perfect for dinner at home, less the cooking.

WHERE TO PRETEND YOU’RE AN OLYMPIAN.

The City of Reno Ice Rink is in the front of Greater Nevada Field at Ace’s Ballpark. Gather some friends, rent some skates and live out your Michelle Kwan/Brian Boitano dreams among the charming lights of downtown Reno.

SEE A SHOW IN A GOLD GEODESIC DOME.

For the perfect evening, we recommend catching a show at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. This season they have an impressive lineup from Motown the Musical to Dirty Dancing! Promise you won’t regret it.

Meet City Green Gardens!

Founded in 2010 by husband and wife team, Craig and Gail Frezzette, City Green Gardens is the only USDA Certified Organic producer in Reno. They produce quality greens year round and are passionate about the local food movement. You can purchase their harvests locally at Scolari’s Caughlin Ranch location as well as Butcher Boy.

City Green Gardens plants enjoy classical and jazz music courtesy of radio station KNCJ 89.5 in cozy structures called Hoop Houses that keep them safe from the elements year round! Their cultured produce can also be found at some super cool restaurants who love eating local (which we love): 4th Street Bistro, Old Granite Street, Beaujolais Bistro, La Strada, Bistro Roxy, Sterlings Steakhouse and Great Full Gardens.

Stay Tuned

We’ve got some pretty big spring plans in the works and can’t wait to share them with you. Make sure to follow along on the fun on Facebook and Instagram for all updates + tasty food photos.

Here’s to adventure off the eaten path,
