Tech companies are coming in droves, real estate prices are skyrocketing, while city lines continue to grow. Locals have know Reno’s charm for decades, but a lot of people haven’t gotten the memo that Reno is transforming into a quirky hip city, where mountain town meets neon nostalgia. The misconceptions are many. Think Reno food means casino buffets? Ya, they’re here, but outside the ring of slot machines, Reno has a vibrant food scene with everything from trendy food trucks to creative fine dining. Think the only thing to do is gamble? Not even close, Reno has everything from world-class art to outdoor adventure and great nightlife. Reno’s a contemporary city, whose pioneer roots are still alive and well. Spend 36 hours in this city of contradictions and you’ll see why Reno is a city that’s soon to be on the world’s radar.

Where to Stay

Reno’s casinos dominate the skyline and if gambling is your thing it’s you can stay in style at the Peppermill and Atlantis. To escape the Monte Carlo vibe check out one of Reno’s casino free crash pads. The Whitney Peak Hotel is casino free, dog-friendly and a staple of downtown. Apart from the modern rustic rooms, the hotel boasts a 500-foot rock wall on the side of the building which overlooks all of downtown and the Reno Arch!

Where to Eat

Reno has serious culinary chops, no matter what vibe you’re looking for there are great eats to fit the bill. In the summer months, you can go all out at Food Truck Fridays in Idlewild park where hundreds of food trucks representing every cuisine under the sun converge alongside live music under the summer sun. Get a taste of what’s local and in season at Midtown Eats. Stop by West Street Market, Reno’s eclectic food hall for a choose your own adventure meal or take a Reno Food Tour to get a glimpse into the wide array of gastronomic delights on offer!

What to Do

Apart from food, the beer scene in Reno has taken off with over a dozen local breweries. Revision Brewing is making waves with their hazy IPA’s and across town, Brewer’s Cabinet is serving up their iconic Tahoe Beers alongside creative crafts like kettle aged sours brewed with green tea. Take yourself on a brewery tour of Reno to try all the deliciousness on tap. Not a beer drinker? No worries, 10 Torr and The Depot also distill their own liquor, so you can sip on craft cocktails made with local spirits.
